AbsTrac is a web-based,
automated absenteeism tracking system which was developed in conjunction with
epidemiologists from the Franklin County Board of Health. AbsTrac allows public
health professionals to monitor absentee rates at particpating schools
throughout the Central Ohio Homeland Security Region in near real-time. AbsTrac
collects data from selected school districts and displays the absenteeism
information as geospatial maps, normalized chart/bar graphs, and spreadsheets.
Since diseases and disasters do not follow political boundaries, the system was
designed to include all counties of the Central Ohio Region. This enables each
local health jurisdiction in the Central Region to quickly recruit and activate
school districts.
AbsTrac is currently being used by multiple public health agencies to monitor
ten (10) school districts. Work is under way to bring an additional twenty-four
(24) districts on-line so that epidemiolgists can get an even more complete
understanding of the public health situation throughout the Central Ohio
Region.
